Big old jet airliner/fly like an eagle

Image
We’re flying to Montreal Friday morning. Chris looks at the weather apps and radars and plans accordingly, I generally have a loose idea, and if Shawna hadn’t told me it was gonna rain I’d be wearing short shorts and boots. I guess I’ll try to pack a rain jacket or something. Excited for roll the bones, and Montreal in general, I was talking with a guy last night and he was on about the gentleman’s clubs and casinos, didn’t think that was on the radar but we’ll see. I’m hoping to drink some coffee, see the motorcycle show, hang out with Christos and look at some vintage Harley’s. Excited to see all the panheads, knuckles etc and get some inspiration. Also messaged an old timer about finding an evo for that rigid frame we’ll see where it all goes.

Stan

So I called an Oldtimer I bought my first bike off and went to have a visit. Turns out he’s had a rough time the last couple years. His mom passed away, his house was foreclosed on and he has lung cancer and is on oxygen and next to no mobility or strength. It was rough to see a guy that was vibrant, always smoking and bullshitting,a million bikes on the go, super cool shop, etc to be in such rough shape. We had lots of laughs but it was a tough night. I bought some fenders, 39, 35mm trees, tires, fxr stuff, some clutch stuff, but it wasn’t the greatest, it was more to help a guy out. I’ve been praying for him. I hope it turns around, sometimes when you ask to be of service, life takes you unexpected places.

Working hard or Hardly working

I dropped off the pan with Devin, no idea when he’ll look at it but at least it’s in good hands. I’m gonna start assembling the parts for the rest of that bike. I’m pretty exited.  That trailer full of parts is organized and I’m slowly listing stuff for sale on FB as I keep trying to make progress on the house. Sold some shovelhead seats, a fender, and a cool twisted highway peg bar, probably shouldn’t have sold it but I’m trying not to be precious about this stuff and make my money back to fund the pan. Don’t cry over sold chopper parts. That would be a good t shirt. Our trip to Montreal for Roll the Bones show is quickly approaching.  We’re gonna meet Chris, he’s coming up from NYC. I jokingly made a new years resolution that I’m going to all the motorcycle events and swaps this year and so far the schedule has been packed. Stoon swap at the end of May, northern FXR jam, some other rallies and hope I can get my border stuff sorted so I  can go south next summer. I bett...

Greasy B

I may not build motorcycles, but I like to assemble things that look like them. I had a short track snowmobile we called Greasy, a 1990 sportster I called Greasy Lucille, I think I’ll call this one Greasy B, at least this afternoons mock up of it. RIP Brent, hope you don’t mind me fuckin with your shit.

Things got out of hand

Image
On April 17, and 18th things officially got out of hand. 10 minutes from my house there was a for sale sign and a phone number. I called and he told me to come out and have a look. I had a look.  I have to believe this is guided, or I’m insane. It’s a fine line.

Ride with the wind

Image
Extreme wind on the way to Edmonton, and kind of cold, but the FXRT fairing and lowers were wind tunnel tested in the early 80’s so you know it’s state of the art Harley Davidson tech.  This bike is actually very comfortable to ride in tornado winds, and it’s taken a long time to get it to this point.  I picked up the check that didn’t get mailed after finishing that shop and and continued south, to Red Deer. It’s can be so frustrating chasing money, and people for the money, but it gives me the freedom to take a Friday off and do something I love.  The wind was behind me for the afternoon and the sun was out. It Felt like a great day to be alive after a long winter and I was looking up at the sky as I riding down Highway 2, feeling the deep purpose and rhythm underneath it all, it could have just been the thunderheader and 41 year old Harley this 41 year old was riding but it felt connected . The shirt I was wearing was one of the shirts I got out of the box labele...
